CruxCase for iPad Brings Netbook Form Factor to Apple Tablet

Like a number of iPad cases that try to marry a case and keyboard into a netbook form factor before it, the CruxCase 360 will take on the same challenge and form factor to try and turn your iPad into a netbook. However, unlike other cases that we've seen before, which uses a faux leather soft material, the case on the Crux 360 is a hardened plastic, and the screen can rotate all the way around turning tour iPad into something akin to a Motorola Backflip and use the keyboarded portion as a stand. The design is similar to the ClamCase and gives the CruxCase a more solid laptop or netbook feel to it. The Crux 360 will go for $149. Check out the video after the break.

AUO demo touchscreen solar laptop keyboard & tablet/notebook glasses-free 3D panels

Logitech were pretty proud of their K750 wireless solar keyboard, but AU Optronics is planning to best them at the upcoming FPD International expo with a 14-inch solar-powered touch keyboard solution for notebooks. Basically a touchscreen display for a virtual keyboard, integrated into a solar panel, the new tech will go on show alongside AUO’s new 10.1- and 15.6-inch glasses-free 3D panels.

Those panels, AUO claims, are deadzone-free thanks to an eye-tracking system developed by SuperD. That allows for 2D and 3D content to be displayed concurrently, with the 10.1-inch panel running at WXVGA (and targeted at tablets, AUO says) while the 15.6-inch panel runs at Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution. Mass production is expected to kick off in Q3 2011.

As for the touchscreen solar keyboard, it’s a mere 2.1-mm thick and can run off sunlight or artificial lighting. It’s not enough to do away with mains power altogether, unsurprisingly, but it can apparently reduce external power requirements by around 20-percent.

Asus Lamborghini Eee PC VX6 ships at long last

Normally, an Eee PC branding would mean a netbook, and we all know that netbooks aren't good for anything else apart from opening up a couple of work documents with one browser (or two) running in the background, otherwise the poor little machine is going to start sputtering all over as it just lacks the processing muscle to handle all the additional tasks. Asus must have thought that their 12.1-inch Lamborghini Eee PC VX6 will automatically give an impression of it being faster by virtue of its association with the exotic car manufacturer, just like how rice rockets gain an extra 5mph with a sticker or two on their spoiler. Running on an Intel Atom D525 processor, this netbook will feature slightly higher end innards such as an NVIDIA Optimus graphics chipset and Bang & Olufsen audio capability, retailing for £499 a pop.
